Community Organizer
Community Organizers work with neighborhood residents to empower them through creating and strengthening community organizations and tenant and block associations. We identify community leaders, train them and help them reach out to their neighbors in order to create positive change in their community. We don’t advocate for them, we give them the tools they need in order to fight for their own rights and the rights of their families. We work with community residents on projects to clean up their streets and we help low income renters become homeowners. We help them obtain basic rights from their landlords and from their children’s schools. We help them feel safer when they walk their children to school because there are more crossing guards on the streets, and they feel safer when they pick up their children from school because the street lighting is great.
